Basse-cour La Carretal is located in the department of Lot-et-Garonne that is representative of southwestern France. With its hilly landscapes, its beautiful fortified towns, its medieval castles, its gastronomy and village festivals. Here the trend is “slow”, far from mass tourism and busy life.

Walking and cycling
Are you looking for an idea for a day trip or an hour away, at ease or just a bit more sporty? On foot or by bike? There are approximately 60 walking routes around La Carretal and a total of approximately 440 walking circuits in the Lot-et-Garonne. There are also several long-distance circuits GR654, GR36, GR652 … a slow way to discover the treasures of the French heritage and the richness of the local landscape.



In Villereal, only 4 kilometers from La Carretal, you can rent bicycles for beautiful trips in the area.

And of course the ancient pilgrimage route from Le Puy to Santiago de Compostela runs through the Lot-et-Garonne.
Golf & Country club
In Villeneuve sur Lot you will find a beautiful 18-hole golf course! A beautiful domain with very interesting courses for all levels.

Swim, kayak and cool off
Just 45 minutes from La Carretal, you can take a nice trip by canoe or kayak on the rivers Lot, Dordogne or Vézère. From the river you can discover the beautiful castles and villages that border it. A combination with hiking and canoe-kayak is also possible!

Lake Lougratte is located near Lougratte, a pretty little village 15 minutes from La Carretal. Here is a leisure center open from June to August. The lake, labeled “Blue Flag” since 2019, covers 7,000 m² and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. you can swim and relax here.

Nearby, in Monflanquin and Castillones, there are public swimming pools for a refreshing dip.
Culinary, gastronomy, vineyards
Lot-et-Garonne is known for its famous Prunes d'Agen prunes, did you know that it is also the largest French producer of hazelnuts and strawberries and the number 1 for organic farming?

Taste more than 70 types of fruit and vegetables in our recipes where the colors and flavors of local products blend subtly together. Meet and visit our local goose and duck farms, treat your taste buds with our original regional recipes in all its forms. Every day of the week there is a fresh food market in one of the villages...so enjoy!


What would the Southwest be without its traditional and night markets? Every summer evening near La Carretal you can eat at one of the night markets. For example on the markets of Villereal and Monflanquin. In a friendly atmosphere, where locals and tourists mix, you can taste the successes of our local producers while enjoying live music ... that's real vacation!
Vineyards
The Lot-et-Garonne vineyards are among the oldest in France. We find here an exceptional diversity of grape varieties and production. 8000 hectares of vineyard for four AOCs: Buzet wines, Côtes du Brulhois, Côte de Duras, Côtes du Marmandais but also Armagnac and Floc de Gascogne. These vineyards and numerous cellars are open to the public for a visit and tasting.


30 minutes from La Carretal, on the border with the Dordogne, taste the wines of Bergerac such as the Côte de Bergerac AOCs, Pécharmant, Rosette, Monbazillac, Saussignac, Côte de Montravel, Haut de Montraval, Montravel.

Adventurous
Parc-en-ciel is a wooded and rural adventure/climbing park of 16 hectares 15 minutes from La Carretal. On site you can choose from different climbing courses in the trees, descend with cable cars and cool off in the natural and biological swimming pool. Picnic possible on site.

Happy-Forest just above Agen is also a wooded and rural adventure/climbing park. On site, in addition to 15 climbing courses in the trees, you can also explore a huge labyrinth with orientation tours, pony rides, etc.
